McGowan Trainee Career Advancement Program

Through the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine, graduate students of the Bioengineering and Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Programs are able to tap into ongoing research opportunities and to provide assistance to further develop and enhance their choice of studies. The membership is available free of cost to all graduate students that are enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh in the Bioengineering or Interdisciplinary Programs.

MTCAPTravel Scholarships – Up to 15 travel scholarships ($400 each) are available each year and based on the review and decision by the MIGS Abstract Review Committee. The Travel Scholarships would also include the ETG Conference.

McGowan Institute Seminars – Students will be updated on the Institute’s seminars through the Network Coordinator or through their mentors. These seminars are a wealth of scientific information and are conducted by experts in the fields of biotechnology. Examples of content include advances and applications in the field of tissue-specific stem cells and organ development. The seminars are designed to serve as platforms for networking with faculty and other students.

McGowan Institute Newsletter – A monthly newsletter will be distributed to all participating students through the Network Coordinator.

MTCAP Newsletter - A bimonthly (September through May) newsletter for students highlighting student events and activities.

MIGS-Net Seminars – Hear renowned faculty present lectures that are of interest to its members. Experts from academics, as well as from the biotechnology sector, will provide the lectures.

McGowan Institute Retreat – Up to 10 students will be selected to participate in an annual scientific retreat that is organized by the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. The students will be able to participate and compete in the oral and poster presentations.

Stem Cell Workshops – Up to 3 grad students will be sponsored each year and will be selected on merit. Support is for registration and NTE $1,000.

Student Organized Workshops – Opportunity to organize workshops for other students in the MIGS Network to enhance the interactions among the Bioengineering and Interdisciplinary students.

Miscellaneous Advantages – The MIGS Network will assist the graduate students in attending the monthly survival workshops by providing $5 per student registration fee for up to 10 students each month.
