|
PRINCIPALS Dr. Russell received his baccalaureate degree in Biochemistry and Applied Molecular Biology from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (United Kingdom) in 1984, and his doctorate in Biological Chemistry from Imperial College, the University of London, in 1987. After spending two years (1987-1989) as a NATO Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Klibanov at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Russell joined the University of Pittsburgh as Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering. In 1995, he became Nikolas DeCecco Professor and was Chairman of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering until 2001. In 1999, Dr. Russell co-founded a now successful biotechnology company, Agentase, LLC. Under the direction of Dr. Russell, the mission of PTEI is to propel Pittsburgh and the Southwestern Pennsylvania region to preeminence in tissue engineering through support of university-based research and education, and by pairing tissue engineering scientists with technology transfer opportunities, help them build our regional biotechnology enterprise.
As Director of Scientific Collaborations, Patrick works in conjunction with the President of UPMC’s International and Commercial Services Division to develop the scientific vision and strategy for its research collaborations. In keeping with the UPMC International and Commercial Service mission, he will also propose and coordinate agreed strategies for the development of the organization, in order to ensure that the organization is positioned as a global leader in the delivery of patient therapies. Working in a dual capacity, Patrick also focus his efforts on McGowan Institute’s Industry Magnet program, an industrial outreach program established to coordinate a series of investments in infrastructure, people, and seed funding to build global centers of research excellence within the region of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Prior to his appointment at UPMC and the McGowan Institute, Patrick served as the Chief Business Officer for the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine where he was responsible for all aspects of strategic planning, direction, and business development. In addition, he provided overall administrative direction and coordination in the formulation, interpretation, and implementation of current and long range policies, procedures, and programs. Prior to joining the Wake Forest Institute, he held leadership positions at the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative (PTEI), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the Society for Manufacturing Engineers (SME). |
