J. Peter Rubin, M.D.
Associate Professor Professor, Dr. J. Peter Rubin joined the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 in the division of Plastic Surgery. He serves as Director of the Life After Weight Loss clinical program, Director of the Adipocyte Biology Laboratory, and Co-Director, UPMC Aesthetic Surgery Center.

Dr. Rubin received his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine and completed training in plastic surgery at Harvard University. He received his undergraduate degree from Grinnell College.

As director of the Life After Weight Loss Program, Dr. Rubin specializes in body contouring and other aesthetic techniques, including liposuction. He has done research on safety of anesthetic techniques for liposuction and lectured at national meetings and has been featured in many publications on this topic.

Currently Dr. Rubin’s focus is on adipose metabolism and metabolic effects of large volume liposuction in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of obesity researchers. In his young career, he already has an impressively long list of published journal articles relating to weight loss after bariatric surgery and immunosupression for limb transplantation.
