Dr. Mark Mooney received his M.S in Biological Psychology at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois and then went on to receive his Ph.D at the University of Pittsburgh in Physical Anthropology is currently a member of the Graduate Faculty, Director, Surgical Anatomy Laboratory, Departments of Anthropology and Anatomy & Histology, Director, Hal Pasvar Animal Care Facility, Departments of Anthropology and Oral Medicine & Pathology, Director of the Bertram Kraus Fetal Histology Laboratory, Departments of Oral Medicine & Pathology and Orthodontics, School of Dental Medicine, Associate Professor (Joint Appointment), Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, School of Medicine, Tenured Full Professor (Primary Appointment), Department of Oral Medicine and Pathology, School of Dental Medicine.

He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor for the Center for Craniofacial Development and Deformities, School of Medicine at John Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland, an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Health Science at Seton Hill College in Greensburg, PA., and a Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and a Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.
Dr. Mooney is member of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, the American Association of Dental Research, the International Association of Dental Research, an Honorary Member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Beta Chapter, National Dental Honor Society and last a member of the Plastic Surgery Research Council. He is also a member of a few committees at the University of Pittsburgh as well.
