Dr. Wendy Mars is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology, Division of Experimental Pathology, at the University of Pittsburgh. She has a secondary appointment with the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
Dr. Mars got her BS in Medical Technology from Arizona State University. She then earned her PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Science. She did post-graduate work as a project investigator at the University of Texas System Cancer Center, M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology before she came to Pittsburgh.
Dr. Mars focuses her research on regenerating the liver as a normal model for understanding how the plasminogen activator system contributes to the development of diseases such as cancer.
Dr. Mars is certified in medical technology by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She received the SOM Distinguished Mentor Award in 2010.
