Roberto Carlos Lopez, M.D.

Dr. Lopez is a faculty member of the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine and an assistant professor in Transplant Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Lopez received his degree in Biology at Colegio de Bachilleres in Chihuahua, Mexico and then went on to receive his M.D. in Surgery and Obstetrics from the University if Monterrey in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico. He has held several positions which included Assistant and Associate Professor at the Army Medical Center in Mexico City and was also a Visiting Instructor in Surgery at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Lopez as authored several publications since 1997 and has been involved in many research projects, the most recent ones include; through Carnegie Mellon University (NIH) which involved Thermal Destruction of Cancer Tumors using Nanoparticles, Biology and of Porcine Endogenous Retrovirus Xeno-zoonosis and High Cell Density Bio-hybrid Liver Support Systems through NIH.

He has completed several research projects; the Development and Evaluation of a Bio-artificial Liver, Excorp Bio-artificial Liver Research Laboratory Support, which he provided laboratory support to clinical Phase 1 safety investigation of Excorp bio-artificial liver and investigation metabolic properties of Excorp bio-artificial liver.
