Marina V. Kameneva Ph.D.
Dr. Kameneva is a Research Professor of Surgery in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Professor of Bioengineering, University of Pittsburgh, and Director of the Artificial Blood Program at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Kameneva received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Moscow State University (former Soviet Union) in 1972 and subsequently worked at the Research Institute of Mechanics of the Moscow State University until 1989. After emigration to the United States, Dr. Kameneva joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 as a visiting scientist of the Artificial Heart and Lung Program and was appointed as a Research Assistant Professor of Surgery in 1996, as a Research Associate Professor of Surgery in 2000 and as a Research Professor of Surgery and Bioengineering in 2006.

Dr. Kameneva's areas of expertise are biorheology, hemorheology, hemodynamics and mechanical blood trauma in artificial organs. All told, she is the author of more than 100 publications in the area of Fluid Mechanics and Biomechanics. Currently, within the Hemorheology, Hemodynamics and Artificial Blood Research Laboratory, Dr. Kameneva and her research team are working on a variety of projects ranging from the testing of new medical devices to performing theoretical and experimental research related to the development of next generation artificial organs including artificial blood. She is a PI and Co-PI of several Federal and Private Foundations grants. In 2002, Dr. Kameneva received an American Diabetes Association Innovation Award for the study “Application of blood soluble drag-reducing polymers for treatment of impaired microcirculation in diabetes.” She currently serves on the editorial board of the ASAIO Journal. She is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
