Thomas G. Gleason, MD

Thomas G. Gleason, MD Dr. Thomas Gleason is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is also the Director of the Center for Thoracic Aortic Disease and the Co-Director of the Center for Heart Valve Disease at the Heart, Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute, both at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Prior to this he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.  He has also worked as an Instructor and Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Dr. Gleason got his BA at Middlebury College in Vermont. He then earned his MD from Rush Medical College in Chicago and his MS from the University of Virginia. He is certified with the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Gleason is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Medical Association, and the Muller Society. He is the Chair of the Taskforce on Guidelines for Thoracic Aortic Surgery in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is also the Chairman of the Cardiac Surgery Practice Taskforce at UPMC. He serves as a reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and Journal of American College of Cardiology.
