Howard Edington, M.D.
Dr. Howard Edington is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Surgical Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Edington holds a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University and received his M.D. from Temple University in 1981.
He initially joined the university in 1987, as a Resident in General Surgery at the University Health Center.
He then pursued his fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute. In 1990, Dr. Edington returned to
Pittsburgh as a Resident in Plastic Surgery at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh and joined the
faculty as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology.
Since his arrival in Pittsburgh, Dr. Edington has held the positions of Chief of Surgery at Magee-Womens' Hospital and Associate Surgical Director at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute's Melanoma Center. He has also been featured in several publications for his research. Primarily, he has focused his efforts in the fields of wound healing and cancer treatment. The projects in which Dr. Edington is currently involved include the following:
- Immune and mechanistic correlates of interferon alpha in patients with malignant menanoma
- Immunobiology of Atypical Nevi
