Dr. Joseph Dohar is the Co-Director of the Wound Healing Program at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, as well as the Research Director of the hospital's Aerodigestive Center, and the Medical Director of the Voice, Resonance, and Swallowing Center. He is also a Professor of Otolaryngology and of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he is a Staff Otolaryngologist at both UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Dohar earned his BS and MD from Ohio State University and received his MS from the University of Minnesota. He did his general internship at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He then went to University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic to do his Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery Residency as well as a research fellowship. He moved to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh to do first a clinical fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology and then another research fellowship.
Dr. Dohar's research interests include wound healing and tissue engineering for applications in the skin and upper aerodigestive tract; pathophysiology and treatment of suppurative otitis media; and selected clinical problems in pediatric otolaryngology –pediatric voice, resonance, and swallowing. He is on the editorial board of International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, and he is a member of many professional and scientific societies, including the American Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Society of Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children, and the American Auditory Society, amongst others.
