Dr. Richard Debski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Musculoskeletal Research Center and director of the Shoulder Group. Dr. Debski earned both his BS and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
In the past, Dr. Debski has focused his research on topics such as experimental and computational examination of shoulder biomechanics, determination of ligament forces and joint kinematics using robotic technology, and multidisciplinary evaluation of ACL replacement grafts and computer-aided orthopedic surgery. Recent studies have examined osteoarticular allograft reconstruction of humeral head defects associated with shoulder instability; development of physical exams for shoulder instability; surgical repair procedures for the glenohumeral capsule following joint dislocation; the progression and repair of rotator cuff tears; prevention of osteoarthritis at the patellofemoral joint; and knee injuries due to occupational loading activities during kneeling.
Dr. Debski is the 2006 recipient of the Chancellor's Distinguished Research Award – Junior Scholar, University of Pittsburgh, as well as the 2004 Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Bioengineering Division. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering; Assistant Editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery; member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Orthopaedic Science and Techniques in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Orthopaedic Research Society, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
