Bridget M. Deasy, PhD

Dr. Bridget Deasy is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh.  She is also an adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Bioengineering.  In addition, Dr. Deasy is the Director of the Live Cell Imaging Lab of the Stem Cell Research Center at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  The Live Cell Imaging Lab conducts innovative studies at the tissue, cell, and sub cellular levels, using microscopy, image processing and informatics.  Its goal is to generate functional knowledge on cell behavior based on macromolecular changes and cell-cell interactions within the population niche.
 
Dr. Deasy earned her PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004.  She then focused her post-doctoral work on sex differences in stem cells.  She is the recipient of many awards, such as the Capitol Hill Day Travel Award from the Coalition for Life Sciences, the National Institute of Health Pediatric Research Loan Repayment Program Award, and the Mentor of the Year from the Mentoring Program for Excellence in Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.  She is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology, the International Society for Stem Cell Research, the Orthopedic Research Society, and the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences.  Dr. Deasy is very active in outreach programs and is a participant in the Pre-Engineering Career Access Program (PECAP) with the School of Engineering.  She also periodically opens her lab to high schools in order to give students a hands-on lab experience.
