Mr. James Cummins is a Senior Research Scientist at the Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. As a Senior Scientist, Mr. Cummins acts as a facilitator between the research investigators of the Center, government agencies, UPMC health system, private businesses, outside universities, and the University of Pittsburgh. His primary duties include performing complex data collection and complex data analysis and management, manipulation and analysis of acquired data to insure accuracy and high-quality data, and developing complex experimental designs for the isolation, characterization, and potential clinical application of isolated stem cells.
Mr. Cummins received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He then became certified as a Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics. Since then, he was awarded the AOA-Zimmer Travel Award, once in 2000 and twice in 2001, as well as the Aircast Award for basic Science in 2003. He also served on the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Employee Grievance Review Panel, Rangos Laboratory Users Group, Animal Rights and Care Committee (Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's IACUC), and the Rangos Research Center Safety Committee.
