Dr. Ellen Cohn is the Associate Dean for Instructional Development in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. She is also an Associate Professor with the Department of Communication Science and Disorders and holds a secondary appointment of Assistant Professor with the School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Cohn earned her Bachelor of Arts from Douglass College of Rutgers University. She then attained her Master of Science from Vanderbilt University, followed by her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. She began her career as a speech pathologist at the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Center, University of Pittsburgh, as well as in private practice. She soon became an instructor in first the Department of Speech Pathology and then the Department of Communications. She left her private practice in 1992 to become the Director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic and the Clinical Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Speech-Language Pathology. Her interests span the areas of cleft palate, dentofacial and craniofacial disorders, clinical training in speech-language pathology, pharmacy-based and small group communication, and instructional and telerehabilitation-based applications of electronic communication.
Dr. Cohn has initiated an electronic journal archive, which is available online to the public at no charge, for the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal (1964-1989), in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh Library System. She is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and National Communication Association, amongst others. Dr. Cohn is a textbook reviewer for Lippincott Publishing Company. She is also a Drucker Coach for the Bayer Nonprofit Center and is a member of the Ladies Hospital Aid Society (LHAS) Council of Past Presidents.
