Dr. Tao Cheng is Professor of Radiation Oncology with tenure at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is also holding an adjunct Professorship at the State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Institute of Hematology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Prior to his arrival to Pittsburgh, Dr. Cheng was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Cheng attended the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China, where he earned his medical degrees in Medicine. Following his graduate studies, he first did his residency in internal medicine and then his clinical fellowship in hematology at Changhia Hospital in Shanghai. Upon completion, Dr. Cheng moved to the United States, where he finished his research fellowships in experimental hematology and in stem cell biology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Cheng has received numerous awards during his academic career, including the Junior Faculty Award of the American Society of Hematology (2003), the PNC Foundation Innovative Award (2003), the Outstanding Award for Chinese Oversea Scholar by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (2002) and the Scholar Award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (2008).
In addition to his research and teaching activities, Dr. Cheng is an active member in several professional societies. He currently serves as an executive member and treasurer at the International Society of Experimental Hematology (ISEH). He is an editorial board member for a number of prestigious journals such as Blood, Leukemia, and Experimental Hematology.
