Bryan N. Brown, PhD

Dr. Bryan Brown is a Research Assistant Professor with the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh with a secondary appointment in Pitt’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. He is also the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health Scholar (NIH K12), Magee Women’s Research Institute at the University of Pittsburgh and an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

Dr. Brown earned his BS with Honors in Mechanical Engineering and his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh while working first as an undergraduate research assistant and then the Animal Intensive Care Unit Monitor at the McGowan Institute. He next received several fellowships: the National Science Foundation/Japan Society for the Promotion of Science East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes Fellow, Institute for Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science, Tokyo Women’s Medical University in Japan; the National Institutes of Health National Research Service Award (F31) Predoctoral Fellow at the McGowan Institute; and a postdoctoral fellowship with the Departments of Clinical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University.

Dr. Brown is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society, the North American Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association, the Society for Biomaterials, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society. He was recently honored with the Best Basic Science Research Poster at the Veterinary Orthopedic Society 2013 Annual Meeting. He is a reviewer for several journals, including Acta Biomaterialia, Tissue Engineering, the Journal of Immunotherapy, Biomedical Materials, and more. Dr. Brown is the author/co-author of 25 published journal articles, 4 book chapters, 8 invited lectures, 85 peer reviewed abstracts and presentations, and 4 filed patents. He also speaks Mandarin, which he studied for a year at Peking University, Beijing, China.
