Dr. Aaron Bell is a research assistant professor in the Division of Cellular & Molecular Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Bell earned his BS in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 and his PhD in 1999 from the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Bell was previously a senior vice-chair and founding member of the University’s Postdoctoral Association. He was also a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Pathology.
Dr. Bell's research focuses on understanding the role of transcription factors in control and regulation of liver growth, regeneration, and differentiation. His studies focus on how growth factors, extra-cellular matrix, or chemicals alter the transcriptional program and affect cellular differentiation and fate. Of particular interest are the liver-enriched transcription factors especially Hepatic Nuclear Factor-4, a key liver transcription factor required for liver development and function.
Dr. Bell is a member of several professional and scientific societies including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Society for Investigative Pathology.
