Dr. Harry Blair is a Professor of Pathology and of Cell Biology at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also the Director of the Division of Chemistry in the Department of Pathology. In addition, he is a Staff Pathologist and Merit Investigator for the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System. Dr. Blair also was a Visiting Professor, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), Milano, Italy, in 2010, and a Visiting Professor, Mahidol Medical School, Bankok, Thailand, in 2012.
Dr. Blair received his MD in 1980 from Washington University in St. Louis. He then completed his residency at the University of Miami, where he was the Chief Resident from 1983-1984. Dr. Blair next entered a postdoctoral fellowship program at the Washington University School of Medicine. He also served as an Assistant Professor there for several years. After an additional period as an Associate Professor and Clinical Director of the Metabolic Bone Diagnostic Center at the University of Alabama (Birmingham), Dr. Blair joined the Pitt faculty in 2000.
Dr. Blair’s specialty is metabolic bone disease. His current research activity is centered on:
the role of calmodulin and cGMP in osteoclast control
phytoestrogen regulation of bone turnover
regulation of osteoclasts in hyperparathyroid bone
downregulation of osteoclastic activity
Dr. Blair is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Endocrine Society. In addition, he is on the Editorial Board of Laboratory Investigation.
