Research Description:
Our lab focus is to explore and understand the basic mechanisms underlying neuronal fucntion, from molecular interactions to nervous system communication. We develop microtechnologies to integrate with neurobiology to overcome limitations with present techniques. Most of our research utilizes soft lithography to fabricate microfluidic devices for the precise environmental control of primary neuron culture. The controlled delivery of laminar flow allows multiple treatment groups to be defined on a single substrate, allowing us not only to examine the effects within a treatment, but also the more subtle effects that might occur only between different groups.
