Collaboration and Technology Transfer
CTT
In addition to collaborations with academic research centers worldwide, McGowan Institute faculty members work with private-sector companies developing technology and manufacturing methods for regenerative and rehabilitative medicine. Many of these interactions involve leadership in traditional industry-sponsored clinical trials and co-development of new therapies or devices, but new models of collaboration are also emerging. Recently the McGowan Institute participated in a novel “technology transfer in reverse”: the intellectual property of RheoGene, Inc. was acquired by UPMC for further development. RheoGene’s IP portfolio, which includes advanced technology to control gene expression, is well matched to the Institute’s research strengths.

Additional McGowan Institute Industry Collaborators Include:

Magnetic Moments
MedQuest
Nanomatrix
Osiris Therapeutics
Renal Solutions
Roche
SACHEM
St. Jude Medical
Scios
Sun Medical Company
Tepha
Transoma Medical
TriVascular

Program effectiveness can be measured in the number of private sector firms that have been formed, and how many jobs those organizations have created. As the graphic shows, the success in this area continues to compound as more firms are formed and these organizations grow and mature.
