Program: The program committee is led by Dr. William Wagner. The program will include distinguished guest speakers, a poster session, an elevator pitch contest, and with the participation of external partners and potential collaborators, there will be multiple opportunities for networking and collaboration. If you are required to have a poster…Abstracts MUST BE RECEIVED before February 15th or your retreat registration will be given to someone on the waiting list.
Elevator Pitch Contest: Once again this year the Office of Enterprise Development (OED) is hosting the "Innovator Elevator Pitch Contest." This event will consist of a series of scheduled brief presentations from participating faculty on the value of their technology to an audience that will include industry representatives and venture capitalists. The winning "pitch" receives $7,500 from the OED to advance the technology that was addressed in the "pitch". The audience will vote for the winner. This event is a great opportunity to present the clinical and commercial value of your work to industry representatives who may be interested in exploring collaboration opportunities. Presented technologies should have potential to become start-up companies.
NOTE: Applications must be received by February 15, 2012!

Room Reservations:
Important: The Retreat is scheduled to run Sunday evening through Tuesday evening, vs. the prior format of Sunday evening through Wednesday Noon. The Retreat continues on Wednesday March 7th for trainees. Full participation in the Retreat is encouraged for faculty and trainees. Given the criticality of Tuesday's events, reimbursement for lodging expenses will be dependent on your attendance at the entire meeting (including lodging on Tuesday evening). Your lodging bill will only be covered by the McGowan Institute if you attend through the Tuesday evening dinner and stay overnight on Tuesday. If pre-existing plans prevent attendance for the full retreat, special arrangements for reimbursement of your lodging expenses can be made by contacting John Murphy prior to the event. Without prior written agreement that your stay will not be through Tuesday evening, you are responsible for your entire lodging bill at Nemacolin.
In addition to the full program on Tuesday, there will be student-focused programming on Wednesday (March 7th).
Subject to the provisions above, the McGowan Institute will assume the charge for your reservation (room rate and taxes)when you check in at the Retreat, but it is your responsibility to make your room reservation and to guarantee your reservation with your credit card. If you are a "no-show," you will not be reimbursed for lodging expenses.
Please see the chart below and the attached instructions for room reservations.
Reserve soon; rooms will only be held until February 15th, or until the room block is filled.
Car Pool Facilitation:
Based on requests last year to identify attendees at the McGowan Institute Retreat who have an interest in car pooling to/from Nemacolin Woodlands, we are offering an on-line data collection service.
The survey will close at midnight on Friday, February 23rd, and on the following Monday, we will email to all who fully complete the survey an Excel file that identifies all of the respondents and their interests/schedule, driving/riding to/from the Retreat. It is the responsibility of those on the respondent file to network and determine if they can organize a carpool; we are not offering to form carpools. Please click here to register for the car pool.
