The McGowan Institute promotes a culture that fosters rapid technology development and clinical translation through collaboration. McGowan’s translational process involves a wide range of inter-dependent activities among multidisciplinary teams of research scientists; clinicians; licensing, business development and marketing professionals; regulatory and compliance specialists; education and outreach teams; and a diverse group of external industry partnerships.
Achieving active collaboration among these partners during all phases of technology translation is a key management strategy for McGowan’s success.
Over the course of the past fifteen years, McGowan has:
Established world prominence in three pillars of regenerative medicine – tissue engineering and biomaterials, cellular therapies and medical devices.
Built and integrated a supportive business and regulatory infrastructure to advance therapies through the many stages of translation.
Established a world-class pre-clinical facility compliant to support FDA studies.
Created the Center for Innovation in Restorative Medicine to accelerate the clinical application of regenerative therapies.
Successfully translated 27 technologies into the clinic.
Obtained over $20 million from industry partners to support the translation and commercialization of research technologies.
Spun out 25 start-up companies based on McGowan Institute therapies resulting in 400+ direct jobs and over $390 million of leveraged funding.
Created an Executive-in-Residence Program to support the business development and planning for commercializing regenerative technologies.
McGowan has redefined the traditional university to industry technology translation process by creating an unconventional development model that integrates resources for research and development, pre-clinical testing and clinical application. The key to our success is the establishment of an open system in which knowledgeable partners with diverse backgrounds combine their complementary expertise to create regenerative medicine innovations that lead to successful treatments for those with severe injuries or diseases.
We seek opportunities to engage with other professionals in this dynamic field. If you are interested in partnering with the McGowan Institute and to the growth of regenerative therapies, please contact Patrick Cantini at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 412-624-5209.
